Backstory

His origin is is shrouded in mystery, since it isn't mentioned in the game of what he is or where he came from. But according to the character's creator, Sunthedoggo (Fandom Profile), Matter is a sentient alien asteroid who had gained consciousness during the Precambrian period. Anything beyond that is still unknown, however.
